Ping Monitor
Real-time network host monitoring with latency, packet loss and jitter visualisation
SoftPerfect Ping Monitor is a free desktop application that continuously monitors network hosts via ICMP ping. It tracks latency, packet loss and jitter in real time and presents the results in three flexible view modes: a sortable table with sparklines, a visual tile grid, and a hop-by-hop route trace. Configurable thresholds automatically classify host status as good, degraded or critical, while desktop notifications and optional sound alerts keep you informed of any changes.
The application runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, stores all data in a local SQLite database, and requires no external services or subscriptions.
Key features
- Real-time monitoring — Continuous ICMP ping with configurable intervals, latency/loss/jitter tracking, and colour-coded status indicators.
- Three view modes — Table view with sortable columns and sparklines, tile view with three size options, and route trace with hop-by-hop analysis.
- Detailed graphs — Interactive latency charts with five time ranges (5 min to 7 days), plus 24-hour quality heat strips.
- Customisable thresholds — Per-host or global latency thresholds (good/degraded/critical) with automatic status classification.
- Desktop alerts — Notifications and optional sound alerts when hosts go offline, degrade, or recover.
- Colour schemes — Seven built-in graph colour themes with full customisation, plus light/dark mode support.
- Cross-platform — Windows (32/64-bit, ARM64), macOS, and Linux.
Where Ping Monitor is useful
- Network administration — Monitor routers, switches, servers and other infrastructure devices. Instantly see when a device goes down or response times increase.
- Online gaming — Track latency to game servers in different regions. Identify the best server for lowest ping and spot connection issues before they affect gameplay.
- Remote server monitoring — Keep an eye on web servers, cloud instances and VPS hosts. Get notified the moment a server becomes unreachable.
- ISP and connection quality — Monitor your internet connection quality over time. Track latency patterns, detect packet loss, and gather evidence for ISP support tickets.
- Worldwide connectivity — Ping hosts across the globe to map network performance by region. Compare latency to services in different countries and continents.
- Home lab and self-hosting — Monitor NAS boxes, home automation hubs, Raspberry Pis, and other local devices to ensure they stay online and responsive.
