Getting started

This guide will help you get the TFTP server up and running quickly.

First launch

When you first start the TFTP Server application, you will see the main window:

TFTP Server main window

The main window displays:

  • Transfer list: the transfers in progress, with the client's address, the file, the direction, progress and speed.
  • Server log: server events and transfer activity as they happen.
  • Status line: whether the server is running, the port and addresses it listens on, the transfers in progress and today's completed transfers, the root folder and any problems.

Parts of the status line can be clicked: the port opens the settings, the root folder opens in your file manager, and the problems show only the warnings and errors in the server log until you click them again.

Basic setup

Before starting the server, you should configure at least the root directory:

  1. Click the Settings button in the toolbar or press Ctrl+L.
  2. Set the Root directory to the folder containing files you want to serve. This is also where uploaded files will be stored.
  3. Adjust the Port if needed (default is 69). Note that ports below 1024 require administrator privileges.
  4. Click OK to save your settings.

Starting the server

To start the TFTP server:

  1. Click the Start Server button in the toolbar, or
  2. Use the menu File → Start Server, or
  3. Press F5.

The status line shows “Running” with the port and addresses the server listens on. The server is now ready to accept TFTP requests.

Testing the server

You can test the server using any TFTP client. For example, on Windows:

tftp -i 127.0.0.1 GET filename.txt

Or using curl:

curl tftp://127.0.0.1/filename.txt -o filename.txt

Stopping the server

To stop the server, click the Stop Server button, use File → Stop Server, or press F6. Active transfers will be terminated.
